AI Transparency
Living Memories uses artificial intelligence to help you preserve and bring life to your family photographs. This page explains how we use AI, which models power our features, and their limitations.
How We Use AI
Our AI features help restore damaged photographs, add color to black-and-white images, and create gentle animated videos from still photos. Every piece of AI-generated content is clearly labeled so you always know when AI has been involved.
AI Models We Use
Gemini 3.1 Flash (Google)
Used for photo restoration and colorization. This model analyzes damaged photographs and generates repaired versions with enhanced clarity. For colorization, it applies historically plausible colors to black-and-white images.
Veo 3.1 (Google)
Used for "Living Memory" video generation. This model creates short animated videos from still photographs, adding subtle motion like breathing and ambient atmosphere.
What Each AI Feature Does
- Photo Restoration
- Removes scratches, tears, stains, and other damage from old photographs. The AI attempts to reconstruct missing or damaged areas based on surrounding context.
- Photo Colorization
- Adds color to black-and-white or faded photographs. The AI infers colors based on visual context and historical patterns. The applied colors are plausible but may not match the original scene exactly.
- Living Memory (Video Animation)
- Creates a short animated video from a still photograph. The AI adds subtle, lifelike motion while preserving the composition of the original image.
Limitations and Important Notes
- Restoration accuracy: AI restoration is not perfect. Heavily damaged areas may be reconstructed inaccurately, and fine details (text, facial features) may not be fully recovered.
- Color accuracy: Colorized photos use AI-inferred colors that are historically plausible but may not match the actual original colors of clothing, objects, or surroundings.
- Video realism: Living Memory videos are AI-generated animations, not recordings. The motion is artificial and does not represent real events or movements.
- No personal data in AI logs: We log metadata about AI operations (model used, duration, status) but never store your actual photos in our processing logs.
- AI content labels: All AI-processed content is clearly labeled (e.g., "Restored by AI", "Colorized by AI", "Generated by AI"). These labels cannot be removed.
